A Safe Haven

“When I try to describe what I mean about what Troll Knoll is and now, what the maturing of the ‘Geezer Garden’ means, there are a lot of stares and expressionless faces indicating that the ‘troll concepts’ may not always be explained properly.” – John, the caretaker

Troll Knoll is a concept and description of a sanctuary.

The history of any garden is that a thousand years ago, the word ‘garden’ may have its beginnings from German word “a garten” which is described as a ‘safe haven’. A safe haven to me can mean immersing myself in projects. For instance, hedges on a walk; the development of a plant display; creating  a getaway area, or development of numerous distractions from the realities and finalities that are part of life but can be included in a greater concept. Troll Knoll has provided, through its being and evolution, that for me. And, that leads me to the phasing-in of the Geezer Garden.

The Geezer Garden is my way of saying that this Sanctuary is complete. By being complete, it does not mean that it does not need repair, involvement or change, in fact, quite the contrary. If it did not contain those qualities, it would not be complete. Thus, to accommodate my ‘geezer-ness’, there must be handrails on steps, beautiful pictures for decoration, representations of combinations of shapes, colors and size within a spectacular set of vistas and combinations of many characteristics that are appealing to the eye and other senses. It causes a camaraderie that more than justifies its existence. Allow me to provide further explanation.

Chickens, Turtles and Boxers

I met our neighbors when our boxers wanted tasty fresh chicken from the brood stock living next door. While all were concerned about the welfare of the feathered pets, it became obvious that the boxers were trying to protect and preserve the integrity of the garden. It was only a secondary interest in the feathered creatures that was causing the appeal for social distancing from the owners of the free roaming feathered occupants next door. But by this acquaintance and consideration of the garden sanctuary, common goals of the neighbors became known.

Soon thereafter, a turtle from the wild visited my ‘chicken stock providing boxer entertainment’ kind neighbors and I was called and asked if I had need for a turtle in the garden. “Yes”, I replied and soon there was a turtle in a box landing on the outskirts of Pond Won. The turtle was released at the edge of the pond area.

Today, the boxers started a commotion in the morning indicating that something was amiss. In fact, a beautiful Mallard couple had moved in for the day and were in Pond Won. I turned the cameras onto Pond Won and zoomed to see the magnificent colors of the feathered coat. I then called Ann to see the ducks. Ann came and as we watched the ducks courting in the lily pads in the pond, the turtle came into the picture.

Welcome to the Geezer Garden.
